Towards flame retardant cotton fabrics by atmospheric pressure plasma-induced graft polymerization: Synthesis and application of novel phosphoramidate monomers

► Two novel phosphoramidate monomers were prepared via a simple, two-step reaction. ► The monomers were applied to cotton by an atmospheric pressure plasma treatment. ► Grafting yield was maximized through the use of JMP® software. ► SEM, TGA, vertical burn tests and ICP-OES were used to examine the treated fabrics. ► TGA and vertical burn tests demonstrated a significant increase in char yield.
