A 3D FE model for evaluation of peening residual stress under angled multi-shot impacts

► We set-up a 3D FE model for actual peening cases under angled multi-shot impacts. ► We examine the effects of impact angles, impact patterns and the number of shots. ► Optimal impact angle and pattern were chosen for equi-biaxial residual stress. ► Area-averaged FE solutions on real materials were consistent with experimental data.
