Accurate segmentation of dense nanoparticles by partially discrete electron tomography

► We present a novel reconstruction method for partially discrete electron tomography. ► It accurately segments dense nanoparticles directly during reconstruction. ► The gray level to use for the nanoparticles is determined objectively. ► The method expands the set of samples for which discrete tomography can be applied.
