Towards high accuracy calibration of electron backscatter diffraction systems

► Issues with accurate EBSD calibration are discussed. ► Optical distortion data for 17 EBSD detectors are tabulated. ► A new shadow-casting system is demonstrated; it gives a pattern centre precision of ∼10 μm and allows changes to be observed on the live EBSP.
