Guidelines and methodologies in asymmetric synthesis and catalysis

The present article provides an overview of the basic principles of asymmetric catalysis. An outline of the methodologies useful for the synthesis of chiral non-racemic products is given as well. Merits and drawbacks of each technique are commented.
