A simple fabrication method for mechanically robust superhydrophobic surface by hierarchical aluminum hydroxide structures

► Hierarchical structures were obtained via sandblasting and alkali modification. ► Hydrophilic aluminum hydroxide structures were modified with SAM coating. ► Both nano-scale and hierarchical structures exhibited superhydrophobicity. ► The robustness of wettability was improved by forming dual-scale roughness.
