This paper is written generally with the purpose of learning how to generate atmospheric pressure glow discharge (APGD) plasma in the air and large spacing condition. According to the ion capture mechanism, a practical frequency range is achieved, which can also be satisfied by the plasma power source developed by ourselves. Then the plasma feature in this achieved frequency range (10–50 kHz) is learned by some experiments. In these experiments, some factor such as applied voltage (V) frequency, V amplitude, V style, duty cycle of pulse V and dielectric barrier material are examined in terms of impact on generating APGD plasma. And discharge patterns and waveform of V–I (current) with respect to different experiment condition are illustrated as well. According to results of proposed experiments, it is known that which the favorable factors are in this frequency range. It provides foundation for the realization of generating AGPD plasma in air and large spacing condition.
► The impact of frequency on the initial discharge voltage of APGD.
► The impact of dielectric barrier material on the APGD.
► The impact of applied voltage style on the APGD.
► The impact of duty cycle of pulse voltage on the APGD.
