Cherenkov counters in experiments at IHEP accelerator

The design and main characteristics of particle detectors based on the Cherenkov effect and built for experiments at the 70-GeV IHEP accelerator are presented. Experiments where Cherenkov detectors played an especially important role to obtain new fundamental results are described.
