A convenient cellular assay for the identification of the molecular target of ergosterol biosynthesis inhibitors and quantification of their effects on total ergosterol biosynthesis

► No particular isolated enzymes are necessary for identification of the inhibited target enzyme. ► 13C-acetate incorporation into newly synthesized ergosterol allows the determination of the potency of a substance. ► Novel antifungals in the post-lanosterol part of ergosterol biosynthesis can be characterized. ► Identification of 19 different sterols during our study.
