Two new species of Cystopage, C. ovispora and C. irregularispora, obtained in Taiwan

• Chlamydospores in the new species, Cystopage ovispora and C. irregularispora, develop mostly on a short branch of vegetative hyphae.
• Cystopage cladospora is the only known species to have such a characteristic.
• The chlamydospores are ovoid in C. ovispora, and irregular in shape in C. irregularispora.
• In C. cladospora, chlamydospores are globose to subglobose.

Two nematode-trapping zoopagalean fungi in the genus Cystopage are described as new species. Cystopage ovispora is distinct from other species of the genus as it forms ovate chlamydospores mainly on lateral short branches of the vegetative hyphae. Cystopage irregularispora is characterized by irregular-shaped chlamydospores. The two new species were detected on water agar plates that were incubated with pinches of leaf molds collected in Taiwan.
