MicroRNAs in cardiac hypertrophy and failure

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous small ribonucleotides and they orchestrate development, growth, function and stress response of probably all cells by regulating target messenger RNA translation. Modulation of miRNA expression in vivo has revealed an important role for the control of heart function, particularly cardiac growth and conductance. Development and use of miRNA antagonists to target miRNAs in vivo may translate into novel therapeutic strategies for heart disease in the future.
