Flammable substances are used in laboratories and industrial process. Flash point is one of the most important physical properties used to determine the potential for the characterize fire and explosion hazard of liquids. The flash point data at 101.3 kPa were measured for the binary systems {methylcyclohexane (MCH) + n-heptane}, {MCH + p-xylene} and {n-heptane + p-xylene}. Experiments were performed according to the standard test method (ASTM D 3278) using a SETA closed cup flash point tester. The measured flash point data were compared with predicted values by activity coefficient models: Wilson, Non-Random Two Liquid and UNIversal QUAsiChemical.
Fig. 1. (a) The comparison of the flash point prediction curves with the experimental data for the binary system {MCH (1) + n-heptane (2)} at 101.3 kPa). (b) The comparison of the flash point prediction curves with the experimental data for the binary system {MCH (1) + p-xylene (2)} at 101.3 kPa. (c) The comparison of the flash point prediction curves with the experimental data for the binary system {n-Heptane (1) + p-xylene (2)} at 101.3 kPa.Figure optionsDownload as PowerPoint slide
