Lactational evaluation of effects of calcium soap of fatty acids on dairy ewes
چکیده انگلیسی

The effects of calcium soap of fatty acids (CSFA) on dairy ewes performance have been compiled. Data show that CSFA supplementation markedly increased milk fat content and decreased milk protein content. Milk yield was not affected by CSFA supplementation. In this review, relationships between added CSFA and milk yield, milk fat content and milk protein content responses were established considering the inclusion level and lactation period. The positive effect of feeding CSFA on milk fat content was more evident at the beginning of lactation; however, its negative effect on milk protein was more pronounced in late lactation. The maximum responses were observed with the addition of up to 150–200 g CSFA/day and ewe.The fatty acid composition of milk in dairy ewes was also modified by CSFA supplement. The percentages of short and medium chain fatty acids were reduced, whereas percentages of long chain and unsaturated fatty acids were increased. Finally, including CSFA in the concentrate of dairy sheep has not improved lamb growth during the suckling period. It can be concluded that the addition of rumen resistant fat as CSFA to the diet of lactating ewe may improve the milk quality relative to human health.
