Nonlinear adaptive subspace SOM implemented by a modular network SOM

An extension of the adaptive subspace self-organizing map (ASSOM) for dealing with nonlinear subspaces is presented. A nonlinear ASSOM is implemented by a modular network SOM (mnSOM) with autoassociative neural network (ANN) modules. In this paper, the architecture and the algorithm of the nonlinear ASSOM based on an mnSOM are introduced, and the results of a simulation of texture image classification is presented.
