• Pavement straw composite fibers (PSCFs) were independently developed as a new material n asphalt concrete pavement.
• Comparative analysis on the microstructural performance of different fiber materials.
• The PSCF achieved higher heat resistance, oil absorbency, and shearing performance than lignocellulose.
• The interface reinforcing effect of PSCF was better than that of other fiber materials.
Pavement straw composite fibers (PSCFs) were independently developed and synthesized from agriculture waste straw and modified bentonite. It compares and analyzes the microstructures properties of different types of fibers. The physical and mechanical properties including heat resistance, oil absorbency, interface reinforcing effect, shear performance, and crack resistance of the pavement straw composite fibers were comprehensively analyzed. The results indicated that the heat resistance, oil absorbency, and shear performance of pavement straw composite fibers were higher than those of lignocellulose. The interface reinforcing effect of pavement straw composite fibers was better than that of the other fiber materials.
