Neuro-inflammation aiguë et stratégies neuroprotectrices

Inflammation is a biological process adapted in response to many stimuli. Beneficial in some cases, pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion is also known for its deleterious effects in case of inadequate or exacerbated response. The inflammatory process is directly involved in the worsening of a secondary acute brain injury. Mechanisms resulting in deleterious inflammation to the injured brain remain incompletely understood. The objectives of this non-exhaustive review are first to describe the consequences of peripheral inflammation on the brain, and secondly to present the key processes involved in brain inflammation. Finally, the protective effects of acute neurological inflammation will be shortly discussed.
