ZusammenfassungIm Jahr 1991 entdeckte der US-amerikanische Arzt und Osteopath Stephen P. Typaldos eine neuartige Diagnose bei einer Patientin mit Nackenschmerzen. Er ging der Sache auf den Grund und entwickelte ein völlig eigenständiges Konzept von Diagnose und Therapie, das sich seither weltweit sowohl in der osteopathischen als auch in der medizinischen Fachwelt verbreitet hat. Die Prinzipien des Fasziendistorsionsmodells (FDM) und seine historische Entwicklung werden in diesem Artikel beschrieben.

In the year 1991 the US-american physician and osteopath Stephen P. Typaldos discovered a novel diagnosis in a patient complaining about neck pain. His investigations lead to an entirely new concept of diagnosis and treatment. This concept, called the “fascial distortion model”, spread within the osteopathic as well as the medical community worldwide since. The principles of the FDM and its historical development are outlined in this article.
