Quelques éléments de connaissance à propos du profil socio-démographique des sages-femmes pratiquant l'accouchement à domicile

Both their small number and their lack of visibility do not encourage studies about midwives practicing home birth. Nevertheless debates between their supporters and critics invite to wonder about their singularity. This work provides an overview on the sociodemographic characteristics of these midwives. It stresses their specificities, as wells from the point of view of their training facilities, residence or exercise. It also points the link between occupational choice of home birth and family background, studies in midwifery school or personal experience of motherhood. Meanwhile, the distribution of these midwives according to their age, is related to the question of the continuity of practicing and the future of the profession.
