Context and Consequences of Delaying Hip Replacement Surgery: A Case Study

The decision to delay total hip replacement, irrespective of factors that clearly indicate it, involves many complex personal issues. The potential consequences of this delay should be considered in the decision-making process. A case study is presented to highlight both the contextual issues and possible consequences associated with delaying this surgery. Nurse practitioners are on the front lines of primary health care and in a unique position to address these complex issues and increase the likelihood of a positive outcome.
