Lyme disease cases have reached epidemic numbers in areas of the United States in recent years. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent serious complications. It is imperative that nurse practitioners be familiar with signs and symptoms of the disease, interpretation of test results, and recommended treatment options. They must also understand the current evidence-based practices related to post-Lyme disease syndrome in order to provide patients with accurate information and options.
