Dementia Screening and Management Practices of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses in Texas

Older adults are increasing in number and as the population ages, the incidence and prevalence of age-associated diseases also increases. Older adults often present with dementia in many different areas of the health care continuum. This article describes the practices of a nonrandom, convenience sample of nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists in Texas whose scope of practice includes adults. The survey asked participants to identify their certification; to describe their practice and skill level and comfort in screening, evaluation, and management of patients with dementia; and to describe the types of practice sites and settings in which they practice.
