Inhaled steroids are the most effective drugs used in asthma therapy. According to the newest guidelines they are administered in every type of chronic asthma. The highest incidence of asthma is observed in children, so ICS are frequently used in this population, often in high doses. It is widely known that oral corticosteroids cause numerous adverse effects. In this review of the literature the authors try to answer to question if similar systemic adverse effects can occur during therapy with inhaled corticosteroids and, especially, which children could be most at risk.
