The evaluation of HCMV DNA in blood and urine is especially useful in diagnostics of congenital cytomegaloviral infections, monitoring of the disease and determination of the therapy's efficiency. Spontaneous elimination of HCMV DNA from blood and/or urine was not observed in patients in whom improvement was not obtained through antiviral treatment.
