Wrodzone zakażenie wirusem cytomegalii (CMV) jako prawdopodobna przyczyna pseudoanomalii Pelgera-Hueta u niemowlęcia

Congenital cytomegaloviral infection can be responsible for symptoms from many organs and systems. The most common are symptoms of central neurological system and senses. Other symptoms are signs from intestinal system and hematological signs as: anaemia, trombocytopenia, granulocytopenia. We present a case of infant with symptomatic congenital cytomegaloviral infection, who received treatment with gancyclovir. The patient developed neutropenia and morphologic abnormalities in a circulating neutrophils in a blood smear. This abnormality is known as Pelger-Huet anomaly. The reason of pseudo Pelger-Huet anomaly in our patient was probably cytomegaloviral infection, because displastic neutrophils were detected a few months after withdrawal of gancyclovir, whereas cytomegaloviral antigenemia persisted.
