Relationship of associate degree nursing program criteria with NCLEX-RN success: What are the best predictors in a nursing program of passing the NCLEX-RN the first time?

The purpose of this pilot study was to analyze which of the associate degree nursing program criteria have a strong relationship with first-time passing rate of the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. A retrospective convenience sample consisted of students from a private, associate degree nursing program. Using logistical regression, statistical significance was found for the following: preentrance normalized math subscores, pharmacology course, advanced medical–surgical course, and repetition of nursing courses. The statistical results support the review of admission and progression policies.
