Intérêts et limites de l'évaluation de la qualité de vie dans le champ des maladies chroniques

Quality of life measurements are being considered increasingly important with regard to evaluating disease progression, treatment, and the management of care provided to patients with chronic diseases. Despite the acknowledged need to consider quality of life issues, quality of life assessment remains under-utilized in clinical practice. These issues should be explored and understood to promote the use of measuring quality of life in clinical practice and clinical research. This review discusses several avenues to provide to clinicians, researchers and health decision-making authority, some arguments of the clinical relevance and accuracy of quality of life instruments and ultimately to enhance the use of quality of life measures.
