Les règles d'évolutivité et le suivi clinique des scolioses dans la paralysie cérébrale

Scoliosis is a serious deformation which worsens the neuromotor deficits of cerebral palsy. It is part of the overall sensorimotor disability resulting from the brain injury. The development of scoliosis in a child with cerebral palsy is directly related to the severity of the neuromotor disorders. Progression of this neurological scoliosis is the same as in idiopathic scoliosis but with specific features related to the primary anomalies. The first signs of puberty must be noted since scoliosis will worsen rapidly during the puberty phase when the growth of the trunk increases rapidly. Radiological surveillance which may present certain diagnostic pitfalls should be completed with careful physical examination of the spine, pelvis and hips to search for unsymmetrical deformation in order to adapt the therapeutic strategy rapidly.
