Recently, interest has been focused on the small airways embedded in lung tissue. Although responsible for early involvement in lung diseases, no specific CPT maneuver has been proposed for the small airways clearance. A four-tier classification of CPT has been established with identification of its benefits at each level of a monoalveolar respiratory tract model.
