La construction du sens en rééducation : sémiologie et classifications

Constructing meaning in physical medicine and rehabilitation is a complex process, equally complex to describe and formulate. Although the WHO classifications of 1980 and 2001 have contributed a certain clarification by describing macrosigns (deficiencies, incapacity or activity, disability or participation), healthcare professionals working with disabled persons are still faced with the lack of corresponding signs and symptoms which can be used for meaningful categorization in routine practice. On the individual level, disability is a phenomenon of stress related to the causal disease and to the present situation, as well as to age and to the modalities of life and living. On the contrary, on the social level, disability belongs to a system opposing it to disease and age and requiring the formulation of consensual rather than universal delimitations.
