Painful Os Peroneum Syndrom (POPS)

ZusammenfassungDer laterale Fußschmerz kann verschiedene Ursachen haben. Eine mögliche, aber noch wenig bekannte Ursache, ist das „POPS“ (Painful Os Peroneum Syndrom), welches differentialdiagnostisch bedacht werden sollte. Wir stellen einen 66-jährigen Patienten mit seit Jahren zunehmendem lateralem Fußschmerz vor. Erst nach einer ausgiebigen bildgebenden Diagnostik (Röntgen, 3-Phasen-Skelett-Szintigraphie und Computertomographie) konnte die Diagnose wahrscheinlich gemacht werden. Die durchgeführte Operation bestätigte die Diagnose eines Os peroneums. Wir stellen diese seltene Entität unter Einbeziehung der relevanten Literatur dar.

SummaryLateral foot pain can be caused by various pathological conditions. One of the potential causes is the widely unknown Painful Os Peroneum Syndrome (POPS) and should be included in the differential diagnosis. In this case study we report on a 66 years old male presenting with over many years increasing lateral foot pain. Eventually the combination of several imaging modalities (radiography, scintigraphy and CT-scan) allowed establishing the diagnosis, the Os Peroneum Syndrome. Subsequently the findings were confirmed during a surgical procedure. In this article we describe this triad of symptoms and discuss the related literature.
