The design and function of plantar foot-orthoses are closely related to the choice of type, the biomechanical design, material combination and indication. Each case is an individual fitting to a specific patient, in which the orthotist will work to a detailed prescription of a medical doctor. Many different points have to be taken into account in order to achieve a good result. This article describes some general considerations regarding the clinical and technical choices the orthotist will have to consider in order to achieve a high functional value with the plantar foot-orthosis.
