Mise en place d'une procédure de réhabilitation dans les hôpitaux publics

The management of patients scheduled for major surgery has changed. It is supported by a structured organization of perioperative care that includes preoperative habilitation and postoperative rehabilitation. The cornerstone of preoperative habilitation is the anaesthetic consultation where preoperative nutritional support, smoking cessation, cardiac and pulmonary function evaluation, and adjustment of treatments are planned. The rehabilitation process after surgery, applied to abdominal surgery, has been extended to other surgical procedures. All healthcare providers need to be involved and committed to obtain a significant decrease in the duration of hospital stay and a decrease in postoperative morbidity. Achievements of these goals need to be periodically evaluated.
