Insulin-like growth factor-1 cytokines cross-talk in type 1 diabetes mellitus: Relationship to microvascular complications and bone mineral density

► We investigated levels of inflammatory cytokines (IL-8, IL-6) and IGF-1 in T1DM. ► Adolescents with T1DM have higher IL-6 and IL-8 with lower IGF-1 than control peers. ► Poor glycemic control further exacerbates inflammatory cytokines and PN. ► Inflammatory cytokines play a role in T1DM microvascular complications and low BMD.
