Role of catecholestrogens on ovarian prostaglandin secretion in vitro in the catfish Heteropneustes fossilis and possible mechanism of regulation

► Catfish ovarian prostaglandins E2 and F2α show seasonal and periovulatory changes. ► 2-OH2, E2 and 2-methoxyE2 stimulate PGE2 and PGF2αin vitro. ► 2-OH2 effect is mediated through both estrogen and adrenergic receptors. ► PKC and MAP kinase blockers inhibit the 2-OH2-induced PG stimulation. ► cAMP-PKA signaling pathway appears to inhibit the steroid effects.
