Clopidogrel pretreatment abolishes increase of PAI-1 after coronary stent implantation

Clopidogrel pretreatment completely abolishes the increase of PAI-1 active antigen after coronary stent implantation. This suggests that peri-procedural platelet activation might play a major role for the increase of PAI-1 after PCI thus increasing the risk of acute and subacute thrombus formation based on a reduced endogenous fibrinolytic system.
