Tratamiento con acupuntura y moxibustión de una paciente con parálisis facial congénita por síndrome de Moebius

ResumenEl síndrome de Moebius es una enfermedad congénita caracterizada principalmente por la afectación de los pares craneales VI y VII, que produce inexpresividad facial con imposibilidad para sonreir, aunque a menudo también están afectados otros pares craneales. Estos pacientes presentan alteraciones musculoesqueléticas con dificultades respiratorias y de deglución.Hemos tratado con acupuntura y moxibustión a una mujer de 39 años de edad que presenta este síndrome. Después de determinar los diagnósticos según la medicina tradicional china, iniciamos el tratamiento enfocado al tratamiento de su parálisis facial congénita, con una sesión semanal de 20 min. de duración durante 10 semanas. Los puntos de acupuntura se destinaron a tonificar los órganos que hallamos en deficiencia. A partir de la cuarta sesión la paciente empezó a mostrar una mejoría y a movilizar la musculatura dependiente sobre todo del VII par craneal, con lo cual se consiguió modificar su expresión facial.

Moebius syndrome is a congenital disorder characterized by an impairment of the VI and VII cranial nerves causing facial inexpressiveness and inability to smile. Often are also affected other cranial nerves, becoming alterations of muscles and bones with breathing difficulties and swallowing.We treated with acupuncture and moxibustion a woman aged 39 who presented this syndrome. After determining the diagnosis according to traditional chinese medicine, we began treatment with a weekly session of 20 min duration during 10 weeks. The acupuncture points were intended to invigorate the organs that are in deficiency. From the fourth session, the patient started to show an overall improvement and mobilize the muscles attached to the VII cranial nerve, by changing its facial expression.
