El misoneísmo y la homeopatía. Reflexiones sobre el pasado para analizar el presente

ResumenEn la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, la homeopatía en España sufrió un rechazo que tuvo su fundamento en una reacción hostil y basada en el miedo. Este hecho estuvo alimentado por destacados representantes de la medicina oficial, catedráticos y hombres de ciencia, en quienes resultaba contradictoria su forma de atacar esta novedad terapéutica sin conocerla a fondo. Algunos llegaron a dedicar cursos completos en la facultad de medicina a fin de advertir a los alumnos sobre la falacia de la homeopatía. Para entender cómo se produjo este ataque frontal a la medicina hahnemanniana, vamos a plantear el marco general de los hechos previos que condujeron a este enfrentamiento, desde dónde se alimentó el rechazo y de qué modo el misoneísmo nos permite comprender modos de reacción que están basados en emociones que no se reconocen como tales y, sin embargo, son el verdadero motor de nuestros actos.

In the second half of the XIX century, homeopathy in Spain suffered a rejection based on a hostile reaction motivated by fear. This rejection was fuelled by notable representatives of official medicine – professors and men of science – in whom the attack against this therapeutic novelty, without deep knowledge of the subject, was contradictory. Some even devoted entire courses in the faculty of medicine to warn their students of the fallacy of homeopathy. To understand how this full frontal attack on hahnemannian medicine was produced, the events leading up to this confrontation are placed in context: we discuss the origins of this rejection and how misoneism allows us to understand ways of reacting based on emotions not recognized as such but which are nevertheless the true source of our actions.
