Protocolo diagnóstico de la afectación del nervio facial

ResumenLa parálisis facial (PF) es la neuropatía craneal más frecuente y su etiología engloba desde procesos banales, totalmente reversibles, hasta causas potencialmente graves que pueden conducir incluso a la muerte. La principal herramienta para llegar a un diagnóstico exacto es la realización de una buena anamnesis y una exploración física y neurológica cuidadosas. Las PF se han clasificado clásicamente en centrales y periféricas, aspecto muy importante de diferenciar para realizar una aproximación diagnóstico-terapéutica acertada. En este protocolo se revisan las principales causas de afectación del nervio facial y se propone un algoritmo que facilite el enfoque diagnóstico.

Facial paralysis (PF) is the most common cranial neuropathy and its etiology includes from trivial processes, fully reversible, even potentially serious causes, which may even lead to death. The main tool to reach an accurate diagnosis is the realization of a good history and careful physical and neurological examination. The PF were classified conventionally in central and peripheral, very important aspect of difference for a successful diagnostic and therapeutic approach. This paper reviews the main causes of facial nerve involvement and an algorithm that facilitates the diagnostic approach is proposed.
