Psiquiatría de Enlace. Experiencia en el Hospital General de México

ResumenLa historia de la Salud Mental y su relación con la disciplina médica tiene sus inicios en el siglo xix en el México Colonial y con la influencia de las teorías europea y norteamericana. En el antiguo enfoque biológico-mecánico se consideraba al individuo dentro de un modelo estímulo-respuesta, ignorando que alrededor del paciente hay factores ambientales, emocionales y cognitivos.La interacción bidireccional entre estos factores y el paciente forma parte esencial del proceso salud-enfermedad. La Psiquiatría y la Psicología se vinculan, en el área de la salud, en el estudio de las enfermedades médicas que presentan trastornos de la conducta y alteraciones psicológicas emocionales; tanto en el paciente ambulatorio como en el quirúrgico y el hospitalizado.El diagnóstico, el tratamiento y la investigación de las enfermedades son el fundamento para integrar el equipo multidisciplinario de salud, que en un contexto de Salud Mental se conoce como «Psiquiatría de Enlace» y «Psicología de la Salud».El objetivo de este trabajo es revisar algunos antecedentes históricos de la Salud Mental en México y en el Hospital General de México «Dr. Eduardo Liceaga» (HGM-DEL) considerando la evolución institucional y las características de los pacientes que recibe el Servicio de Salud Mental, como parte del equipo multidisciplinario de salud.

The history of Mental Health and its relationship with medical discipline finds its roots in the nineteenth century in the Colonial Mexico's, end with European and North American theories influence. In the old biological-mechanical approach the individual was considered to be within and stimulus-response model, ignoring the environmental, emotional and cognitive factors around the patient.The interaction between those factors and the patient is essential in the health-disease process. Psychiatry and Psychology are bonded in the health area, in the study of medical diseases that present behavioral disorders and emotional psychological alterations; in both outpatients and surgical patients.The diagnose, the treatment and the investigation of diseases, are the foundation to integrate a multidisciplinary health team, that is known as Liaison Psychiatry and Health Psychology.The objective of this work is to review the historical background of Mental Health in Mexico and in the General Hospital of Mexico “Dr. Eduardo Liceaga” (GHM-EL) considering the institutional evolution and the characteristics of the patients received by the Mental Health Service, as part of the multidisciplinary health team.
