Pathology of tumours of the male genital tract

Tumours of the male genital tract are diverse. Prostatic adenocarcinoma is important because of its high incidence and mortality, the increased frequency of detection following a drive towards early diagnosis and the need to identify those early cancers requiring immediate intervention and those suitable for an active surveillance programme. Testicular germ cell tumours are relatively uncommon but are important because they involve a young patient group and, although potentially highly aggressive, have been a remarkable success story of modern chemotherapy with current cure rates of approximately 98%. Penile cancer largely overlaps with the more common cutaneous cancer types.
