Reference values for neonatal BAEP and BA recordings using tubal insert phones

• BAEP (brainstem auditory evoked potentials) and BA (brainstem audiometry) are objective methods for study hearing.
• Appropriate BAEP and BA reference values are needed, especially for preterm infants with highest risk of hearing loss.
• Tubal insert phones (TIPs) enable reliable application of waveforms I and II in BAEP diagnostics.
• With TIPs the stimulation artefact is minor, and does not obscure the early BAEP components.
• There are no previously published reference values for neonatal BAEP or BA using TIPs for stimulation.
• We report novel reference values for neonatal BAEP and BA using TIPs for stimulation in 177 healthy neonates.
