Ectopic pregnancy

In recent years there have been significant changes to the diagnosis and management of ectopic pregnancy. In the past ectopic pregnancies were diagnosed and managed surgically in symptomatic women. Since the introduction of Early pregnancy units, the majority of ectopic pregnancies are now diagnosed using transvaginal ultrasound prior to treatment often in asymptomatic women. As a consequence of this, medical and expectant management are accepted alternatives to surgical management in selected cases. This review discusses the various aspects of modern management of ectopic pregnancy.
