Toxoplasmose oculaire : de la physiopathologie au diagnostic microbiologique

RésuméLa toxoplasmose est une infection très fréquente : 30 % de la population mondiale serait atteinte, avec une très grande variabilité. Cependant, en dépit d’une séroprévalence très élevée, l’incidence de la toxoplasmose oculaire (TO) reste limitée à environ 2 % des patients infectés. On peut ainsi estimer à 1 000 000 le nombre de patients avec une TO active ou cicatricielle en France. Les outils microbiologiques mis à disposition du clinicien ont beaucoup progressé au cours des 20 dernières années permettant de confirmer le diagnostic de toxoplasmose dans l’immense majorité des cas suspectés. Quel que soit le mode de contamination, la confirmation biologique du diagnostic de TO joue un rôle important dans la prise en charge du patient, notamment en cas de présentation atypique.
