Soft-Tissue Complications Associated With Distal Radius Fractures

Soft-tissue complications associated with distal radius fractures are common. Nerve injury and carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis and tendon rupture, intercarpal ligament injuries, compartment syndrome, infection, and complex regional pain syndrome have all been reported. These can occur because of factors intrinsic to the fracture, as well as secondary to its treatment. As management options for distal radius fractures continue to advance, an awareness of the complications can lead to improved treatment algorithms and prevention of long-term disability.
