Distal interphalangeal joint fusion is a procedure used to achieve stability, to restore hand function, to relieve pain, and to correct deformity. A successful arthrodesis depends on careful preparation of the joint surfaces, careful positioning, and accurate placement of the fixation. There are multiple fixation techniques described in the literature: the author’s preferred technique involves the use of a headless screw.
