Total hip replacement is a common and effective operation with a high success rate. This article discusses the aetiology and evaluation of persisting pain after total hip replacement. A thorough history and physical examination and appropriate investigation can determine the cause of the painful total hip replacement in most patients, allowing appropriate treatment.
