(iv) Dupuytren’s disease

Dupuytren’s disease is characterized by contracture of the palmar and digital hand fascia resulting in characteristic nodule and/or cord formation within the hand. This results in flexion deformity of the digits with subsequent impaired function. The pertinent epidemiology, aetiology and pathophysiology of this disease are discussed in this review. In addition, current principles of treatment of the hand contracture that develops as a result of this disease, both conservative and surgical, are highlighted in this review.
