ResumenEl tratamiento conservador de la escoliosis idiopática del adolescente (EIA) no se puede establecer actualmente de manera categórica e irrefutable, y es relativo el nivel de evidencia existente.ObjetivoRealizar un análisis de la efectividad de los principales corsés utilizados en el tratamiento de la EIA.Estrategia de búsquedaMedline, PubMed, Cochrane Library desde 1992 a 2009.Selección de estudiosAquellos que cumplen unos requisitos mínimos de calidad en cuanto a metodología de investigación.Síntesis de resultadosAnálisis de los factores que más influyen en el resultado final del tratamiento ortésico, tiempo de utilización de la ortesis al día y global durante el cre cimiento, criterio de efectividad/inefectividad, abandono de la ortesis y evolución de la curva tras la retirada de la ortesis.ConclusiónEl nivel de evidencia del tratamiento conservador ortésico de la EIA es de grado de recomendación B-plata, por lo que sería aconsejable una investigación de mayor calidad metodológica en el futuro usando los sistemas definidos por la Scoliosis Research Society y el Spinal Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment, así como evaluar la incidencia sobre la calidad de vida de estos pacientes.
