A Contemporary Algorithm for the Treatment of Patello-Femoral Arthritis

Patellofemoral joint arthritis is now recognized as an increasingly encountered condition that can be quite debilitating. Unfortunately, the evidence-based treatment recommendations for this entity primarily consist of uncontrolled, observational case series. As such, the treatment of isolated patellofemoral disease varies and remains controversial. Patellofemoral joint pathophysiology and anatomy serve as the primary factors in determining the treatment of this problem. We aim to provide a contemporary algorithm for treating patellofemoral arthritis and to describe the most current surgical options.
