Indications and Technique of Autologous Chondrocyte Transplantation

Articular cartilage, once injured, does not heal. With careful patient selection and attention to meticulous surgical technique, autologous chondrocyte transplantation (ACT) can provide a durable hyaline-like repair tissue. More than 90% of patients with lesions of the femoral condyles have good long-term clinical outcomes, including the return to even high levels of activity. This article will provide a review of current indications surgical techniques, rehabilitation, and outcomes after ACT.
